Discovering Spain through Malaga and the Costa del Sol
The capital of the Costa del Sol is without doubt one of the main tourist destinations in southern Spain. A city that has the perfect combination of great development with the conservation of a certain old port flavor. This is a cocktail that makes it a wonderful place and in recent years it has also gathered a great cultural momentum.
The center of Malaga is fantastic for wandering around in. From the famous Larios street to its cathedral. The Plaza de la Merced is one of its liveliest areas and is near the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Victoria Malaga.
From Malaga it is a quick trip to Marbella, the glamorous summer center. Located in the bay of the same name, for decades it has been one of the main tourist resorts of the Mediterranean. However, you can't miss the traditional flavor of the old town which still retains the essence of its Arabic layout.
About five kilometers from Marbella lies Puerto Banus, a refuge for boats and home to some of the most luxurious yachts in the world. This where you will find the jet set contingent of Marbella. It's a great place in which to spend the night and enjoy yourself in a part of the city that is bursting with character.
The best sightseeing in Alicante and the surrounding area
Meanwhile, Alicante is a modern and populous city lying on the Costa Blanca and overlooking the Mediterranean. Today it is another of the main tourist destinations in Spain, both for its beaches, its environment, its heritage and its cultural status.
A good starting point to explore Alicante is the Esplanade of Spain which, in recent years has become one of the liveliest boardwalks in the country. At its northern end is the Santa Barbara Castle, the symbol of the city. This sits on the top of Mount Benacatil which is 166 meters high.
At the foot of this mountain the historic center of Alicante opens up with important buildings like the Church of Santa Maria, built in the sixteenth century, the Museum of the Insured, the 18th century Municipal Palace that houses city hall, and the early 17th century Baroque style St. Nicholas of Bari Cathedral.
Among Pullmantur excursions from Alicante that should be especially noted is a trip to Benidorm, the tourist capital of Valencia. This is one of the largest entertainment and summer centers of the Mediterranean coast. And once there you should make sure to visit the old town which sits on the Canfali cliff.
Orihuela and Alcoy are two other great points of interest within the province of Alicante. The visit to both towns can be combined with the magnificent Castle Route or a jeep adventure tour taking you round the Alicante province.
