Our adventure starts in the small region of Emilia Romagna, famous around the world for its iconic automotive industries: in a 50-kilometre radius between Bologna and Modena you can find the firms Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati, and the most famous and award-winning of all of them, the legendary Ferrari. Our excursion will take us to Maranello, where we will visit the Ferrari Gallery, inside the factory grounds. The region is also known for its cuisine. On our way back we will be able to taste the famous balsamic vinegar, sprinkled on slices of Parmesan cheese. In the capital city of the Emilia region we will visit the pretty Piazza Maggiore, considered the smartest square in the whole of Italy. We will make the most of the opportunity to discover the Basilica of San Petronio, the largest Christian Church in its day, and the adjacent Palazzo d'Accursio, formerly the city's Town Hall. While strolling around the medieval streets we can admire houses from the 11th century, the city's two symbolic towers and Santo Stefano, a complex of 7th century Byzantium churches, where Emperor Charlemagne was crowned.
The tour of the monuments will end at the University of Bologna, which, with a traditional founding date of 1088, is considered the first university in the world. There will be free time to sample the famous Bologna cuisine and to marvel at the system of arcades that line almost all of the streets in this undiscovered city so full of charm and surprises.
