In Corfu the Empress Elizabeth of Austria ordered to build a villa, The Aquilleion, which was later acquired by the Kaiser Guillermo II, who loved the city of Corfu. This village was named Aquilleion, in honor of the invincible warrior Achilles. Lavishly decorated, the villa is surrounded by luxury gardens leading down to the sea. After a short stop in Kanoni with his beautiful sights, we will continue towards Corfu where we will have free time to discover the narrow streets exploring the shops around the old village.

Palaiokastritsa, Mon Repos and Corfu

Paleokastritsa is one of the most amazing places on the island known as the "Capri of Greece". At the top of a hill dedicated to the Virgin, there is a Byzantine monastery with an impressive view. We will visit the joined museum with his beautiful collection of icons and afterwards the Palace of Mon Repos, a summer Palace of the Greek royal family until the coup in 1967. Known for his beautiful gardens, has became nowadays in an historical museum of the island.
After a brief stop we will head to the historical center of Corfu. The bus will leave us in the famous Plaza Espinosa, in front of the Venetian fortress, where we will start our walking tour trough the historical center. Passing through the old cricket field, we will visit San Jorge and San Miguel palace and Liston square, with its distinctive arches. We will also visit the the church of San Espiridon, saint of the island and we will have free time to stroll through the beautiful streets.

This interesting excursion off the most popular tours, will take us to discover of one the most unexplored side of the island. Driving our jeeps, cross the island from one side to another and spend the central mountain range through some of the oldest towns of the island. We will reach the village of Lakones, and we will enjoy the dramatic view over the bay of Paleokastritsa, sitting in a typical café, savouring Greek tapas and local wine, we will be "Greek for a day."
We will travel along the beautiful bay admiring the beach where Ulises met the beautiful Naussica. We will get back to Kerkyra to return to our ship.
