Excursions in Venice
The Doge`s Palace and St Mark`s square
We leave the port in a private boat accompanied by a guide to travel along the canals of Venice to the area around St Mark's Square, the heart and soul of this great city. Once there, we will begin a 2-hour guided tour, visiting some of the most important sights of Venice. We begin with a visit to St Mark's Square and Basilica with its impressive Byzantine façade. Some of the features that can be seen from the square include the Clock tower and the Bell Tower. The cathedral was built in the 9th century in honour of Saint Mark, the patron saint of the powerful Venetian Republic. In its interior it holds fantastic gilt mosaics. Afterwards, our tour will take us to the Doge's Palace, the former residence of the Doge of Venice and the seat of the government until the fall of the Republic in 1797. We will then cross the famous Bridge of Sighs to the infamous cells of the Piombi prison. At the end of our tour we will have some free time to explore the streets of Venice and its many bridges, visit a museum or perhaps do some shopping. At the agreed time, we will meet up again to make our way back to the port.
Murano & Gondola Ride
Our excursion begins as we leave the port on a private boat to travel along the Giudecca canal and across St Mark's Basin to reach Murano situated in the lagoon to the north of Venice, where we will make our first stop. Murano glass became famous throughout the world and Murano's glassmakers were afforded the privileges of nobility. We will visit one of Murano's factories, where we can see how this precious product is made and watch the master glassmakers at work. As we return to Venice, we will travel the length of Santa Elena Island, taking in the sights of Lido Island and some of the smallest islands in the southern part of the lagoon such as San Servolo, San Lazzaro (famous for its old Armenian Monastery) and San Giorgio. Once in the centre of Venice we will take our place on board a gondola. With a maximum of 6 passengers per gondola, we will travel along some of the smaller and the most beautiful canals during our 35-minute tour.
There are two things that every visitor to Venice really must do: take a sightseeing tour around St Mark's Square and take a ride around the city in a gondola. This excursion begins with a ride in a private boat to St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marcos), in the heart of Venice. At the gondola station, a gondolier we welcome you on board and take you on an unforgettable 35-minute tour of the picturesque canals and bridges. After our gondola ride we will have some free time to stroll around St Mark's Square, a place often described as Europe's finest drawing room, with its palaces, luxurious buildings and charming cafés. This square is also buzzing with activity, with various different types of entertainment. Apart from the magnificent buildings, there are plenty of other things to entertain visitors to the square, such as elegant cafés, open air orchestras and the boutiques under the arches of the Procuratie. *Nota Boarding a gondola can be fairly difficult. Gondola Ride at Night
We leave the port on a private boat, accompanied by a guide, as we head towards the San Marcos district. Just outside San Marcos we will board traditional gondola in groups of six and begin our night-time tour around the city's magical canals. Treasures of Venice
A stroll around the city accompanied by our expert guide is truly the best way to discover the city of Venice. We take a ride in a private boat from the port to Piazzale Roma, where our guide will be waiting for us. It is then when our fairy-tale Venetian experience will truly begin as we walk around the narrow streets and squares in which Venice hides its precious thousand year-old historical treasures. We will visit the Church of Santa María Gloriosa Dei Frari, an enormous Gothic style church that dominates the skyline of the San Polo district. Its interior is astounding both for its size and for the quality of its works of art, which include Titian's most famous and romantic piece - the Pesaro Madonna. After this unmissable visit, we will continue on to the brilliant Rialto Market. For centuries this has been the place where the residents of this lagoon city have come to buy vegetables, shellfish and fresh bread. From the Rialto Bridge we can enjoy the best view of the Grand Canal, with its gondolas weaving among the chaotic traffic of water taxis and "vaporetti". At the end of our tour we will have some free time to rest a while or do some shopping in the San Marcos district. At an agreed time, we will meet up with the rest of the group again to make our way back to the port by boat.
Venice on your own by night
We will leave the port in a private boat to the San Marcos district, accompanied by a guide who will tell us about the city and the mysteries it holds. Once there, we will have free time to discover the night life, take a stroll or sample some typical Italian delights. Later, at an agreed time, we will meet up with our guide again to make our way back to the ship.
This tour has been specially designed as a way of exploring the traditional streets of Venice and discovering the heart of the San Marcos district, a place full of tradition and history. We leave the port on private boats to head over to San Marcos, where a local guide will be waiting to accompany us along the "calle" and the "campi" and tell us about the mysteries of Venice. The best way to experience this part of the city is on foot. Our guide will uncover the legends behind the narrow streets and canals as we listen to stories of the rise and fall of the Venetian Republic. As the evening arrives, Venice becomes a different city. It seems to take a break from the daytime crowds as the evening silence falls and the stones of the palace walls and gondolas whisper the secrets of the city. At the end of our tour we will have some free time to stroll around St Mark's Square before we return to the ship.
