Athens, Acropolis and National Museum of archaeology

Atenas, Acrópolis y El Museo Nacional Arqueológico

This tour of Athens is destined to be one of the most memorable trips you'll ever make. As the capital city of Greece, it's full of life and its splendid sites captures the interest of tourists and locals alike every day. Our guided bus tour departs from Pireus Harbor and arrives at the famous Acropolis. Archaeologically significant, the Acropolis hails back to ancient Greece — a complex of several temples constructed during the 5th century BC. The most impressive of all its buildings is the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, protectress of the city. Considered a classic symbol of ancient Greece, the Parthenon is also one of the greatest cultural monuments the world has ever seen. An outstanding collection of ancient Greek sculptures can be found at the small museum located there. Next stop will be at the Propileum, also known as the Temple of the Winged Victory, and Erechtheion with it’s Caryatids (columns with feminine silhouettes). A panoramic tour of the city follows including Zeus Temple, President’s Residence, Panatheniac Stadium, and Parliament Building, among others. Next our exploration will take us to the famous National Archeological Museum which ranks among the most important museums of the world. Here we'll enjoy seeing the incredible collection of ancient artifacts discovered during excavations from various cities in Greece. We’ll end our day at  Syntagma Square, the most popular plaza in the city. Here we’ll be able to do a little exploring on our own around Plaka, the oldest section in Athens. Full of friendly taverns and delightful shops, we'll have plenty to do — and  great gifts to bring back with us on the cruise. At a designated time we’ll meet in a specific location to return to our cruise ship to have lunch.

Approx. duration 6 ½ hours.
